How to afford avocado toast w/o needing a bank loan (best places to buy local produce)

Avocado toast is one of life's sinful pleasures.  Purchased in a cafe, this culinary delight will set you back $5 - $8.  The cost, of course, is all in those black, lumpy, nuggets of joy.  Purchased from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, avocados set you back about $2 per heavenly lump.

The secret hack?  Those amazing little farm stands which dot our roadways.  Now, some are far better than others, and a few are obviously tourist traps designed to sell overpriced cherries and giant braids of garlic.  The key is to find the ones targeted just at us local folks.

Aw hell, I could marry this avocado if I hadn't already found the man of my dreams.
So lush and perfect.
Check out this bit of perfection scored yesterday in Watsonville.

Our favorite market for local produce is in Watsonville.  My husband passes this market on the way back from surfing, and they now greet him like a member of the family.  The place looks a bit like it was built during a windstorm.  But, we always end up with bags of produce for about $20.  They toss extra produce in the bag and Jovani donated to send their kid to summer camp.  We love the place.  Our fridge is always stuffed to overflowing with fresh produce.

Yesterday's haul of avocados from the Watsonville Farm Stand.  Fresh and in-season.

If you don't feel like hauling your buns over that hill that makes you want to hurl, the other go-to spot is L.J.B. Farms.  Goes without saying for us locals.  It is such a great farm stand I am worried it is going to turn into a tourist trap one day/bus stop like Casa de Fruta.  (L.J.B. already carries some items that are obviously tourist bait, i.e., the garlic ice cream.)  But, for now, the place still oozes with local charm.

Find some bread already.  Time for avocado toast, my friends.
